Volumizing & Contouring

As we age, we notice a change in the appearance of our skin, typically in the form of deepening parentheses lines (static lines that appear when the face is at rest) and wrinkles.  But what may contribute to an aged look is mid-face volume loss.  Our cheeks flatten with age, the skin begins to sag and lips may lose volume or thin.  This happens over time as skin loses some of the building blocks (hyaluronic acid and collagen) that give the skin its structure.
A youthful look depends on having the right amount of fat in the right places.  Expertly adding fillers directly to areas of original volume loss in the face results in a natural, restored look.  We used to treat only the lines that formed.  But, the true culprit is mid-face volume loss that occurs as we age.  Combat these signs of aging by restoring lost volume and softening your look.
What Is It and How Does It Work?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar compound that is naturally found bathing our collagen in our skin.  It helps keep the tissue hydrated and creates a support for collagen which is the webbing that gives strength and elasticity to our skin.
HA is so safe because the body does not recognize the synthetic HA we inject as foreign material and the results are able to last for one year before metabolized with the aging process.  In addition, it is 100% dissolvable using a compounded substance so an aesthetic outcome can be tailored or reversed upon concern of an adverse event.

Depending on the filler used, we can create a smooth, flexible look that blends into the natural structure of your skin, gently filling stubborn etched-in lines and wrinkles.  Or, we can use fillers that are stiffer to add volume to places where lift and contouring is preferred.

When I began injecting in 2006, I only had four dermal filler products to offer.  Now, I have 11 various hyaluronic acid fillers that differ in cohesivity, viscosity and application based on thickness of the tissue and desired aesthetic outcome.  To think that we only had limited filler options to treat the diverse facial tissue of the heavy cheek area, extremely delicate under eye and mobile mouth and lips!  As an artist with a needle, I have a wide variety of different products that I handselect based on patient skin, aesthetic wishes and anatomical

What Can I Expect During My Treatment?
  1. Emily will consult with you to understand your areas of concern and answer all of your questions.  Together, you will determine an aesthetic treatment plan so you can get the best bang for your buck.
  2. You will be given an ice stick to apply for a few minutes and then the injection site(s) are cleaned with an antiseptic.  A topical numbing cream is applied to help further minimize
  3. Emily uses thin gauge needles which she will use to make a few injections in your treatment areas, and you will be on your way.  The actual injection process takes about 10-30 minutes.  After the first poke in each area, the injections contain pain-reducing lidocaine which kicks in to help manage pain or discomfort during the injection and numb the area. Most patients report feeling minimal discomfort.
  4. When done correctly (injection amount and technique), these injections should give you a more youthful look.  Most patients will see the results of their injections begin to look very natural after 3-4 days when swelling subsides and will continue to improve for about 2 weeks for maximum results.

How Long Do The Results Last?

The effects will gradually wear off over 1 year on the average.  Depending on the amount injected and your personal metabolism, the treatment may wear off more quickly or take longer to dissipate.  Some patients need further treatment after 8 months and others see the effect last for more like 2 years.
Preparing For Your Appointment

Please note that use of aspirin, NSAIDs (Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve), vitamin E, omega 3's/fish oils, chia seeds and drinking red wine can increase chances of bruising, as well as, the length of time bruises may last.  For best results, the aforementioned medications (unless prescribed for existing medical conditions) and red wine should be stopped one week prior to treatment and for 48 hours following treatment.  Water consumption is also important since many of the injectables bind to water in the skin so extra hydration is advised.

Cost varies based on products used and quantities.  As an expert injector with over a decade of experience and regional product trainer, Emily knows all of the products well and precisely how much of each is needed.  She will help you get the best result for your specific needs.  For full correction, the average person needs 1 full syringe (1mL) per decade of life.  For example, a 40 year old, may need 4 mL of product.

Voluma is $425 for .5mL syringe and Lyft is $350 for .5mL syringe
Defyne, Refyne and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC are $325 for .5mL syringe
Belotero is $300 for .5mL syringe
